Pump knowledge -- Slurry pump concept and applications
1.Concept of pump: all machines that are used to lift liquid, transport liquid, and increase the pressure of liquid can be called “PUMP”
2. Slurry pump: the pump that transports mixture of water and solids particles which contains dross. Speaking from their principle, Slurry pumps produced in Shijiazhuang China are centrifugal vane pumps.
3. Applications of Slurry Pumps:
1) This type of slurry pump is mainly used for slurry transportation in converter dust removal water system, blast furnace gas washing water system, continuous casting turbid water system and steel rolling turbid water system in iron and steel plants.
2) In the power industry, it is used for flue gas desulfurization systems and ash removal systems. During operation, there are four types of common failures of slurry pumps: corrosion and abrasion, mechanical failure, performance failure and shaft sealing failure. These four types of failures often affect each other.
For example, the corrosion and abrasion of the impeller will cause performance failure and mechanical failure, and the damage of the shaft seal will also cause performance failure and mechanical failure.
1. Bearings Overheated
A. Too much, too little or deterioration of lubricating grease/oil will cause the bearing to heat up, and the appropriate amount and quality of oil should be adjusted.
B. Check whether the pump -motor unit is concentric, adjust the pump and aglign it with the motor.
C. If the vibration is abnormal, check whether the rotor is balanced.
2. Reasons and solutions that may causenon output of slurry
A. There is still air in the suction pipe or pump, which should be filled with liquid to discharge the air.
B. The valves on the inlet and outlet pipeline are closed or the blind plate is not removed, then the valve should be opened and the blind plate removed.
C. The actual head is higher than the maximum head of the pump, a pump with higher head should be employed
D. The rotation direction of the impeller is wrong, so the rotation direction of the motor should be corrected.
E. The lifting height is too high, which should be lowered, and the pressure at the inlet should be increased.
F. The debris is blocked the pipe or the suction pipeline is small, the blockage should be removed and the pipe diameter should be enlarged.
G. The speed does not match, which should be adjusted to meet the requirements.
3. Reasons and solutions for insufficient flow and head
A. The impeller is damaged, replace it with a new impeller.
B. Too much damage to the sealing ring, replace the sealing ring.
C. The inlet and outlet valves are not fully opened, they should be fully opened.
D. The density of the medium does not meet the requirements of the pump, re-calculate it.
4. Reasons for serious seal leakage and solutions
A. Improper selection of sealing element materials, replace suitable elements.
B. Serious wear, replace the worn parts and adjust the spring pressure.
C. If the O-ring is damaged, replace the O-ring.
5. Reasons and solutions of motor overload
A. The pump and engine (output end of the motor or diesel engine) are not aligned, adjust the position so that the two are aligned.
B. The relative density of the medium becomes larger, change the operating conditions or replace the motor with suitable power.
C. Friction occurs in the rotating part, repair the friction part.
D. The resistance (such as pipeline friction loss) of the device is low, and the flow will become bigger than required. The drain valve should be closed to obtain the flow rate specified on the pump label.

The slurry pump needs to be connected to the motor to generate kinetic energy to transport the material out. So what are the connection transmission methods of slurry pump and motor? The following Panshi pump industry introduces the same common transmission methods.
1, DC transmission: the slurry pump and the motor are connected and driven by a coupling, the slurry pump and the motor shaft are on a central shaft, and there are no other transmission links in the middle. DC transmission is reliable and has low failure rate.
2. Belt connection: This transmission means that the motor transmits power to the slurry pump through the belt pulley and belt. Belt connection is divided into CV transmission, CRZ transmission, CLZ transmission, ZVZ transmission, four transmission modes. The difference between these four transmission modes is that the pump and the motor are arranged in different directions.
CV transmission: This transmission mode is that the motor is installed above the bearing assembly of the pump, the pump and the motor have no common base, and the motor is installed by bolting a small seat of the motor. This transmission mode is characterized by the pump and motor installation is relatively compact, saving space, suitable for limited site conditions. Because the motor is above, it can also avoid the motor water, causing motor damage. However, if the motor power is relatively large, it is not recommended to use this transmission mode. Because the motor power is large, its weight is relatively heavy, with this installation method may not be very stable, there is a top-heavy situation. Therefore, this transmission mode is generally only recommended for use when small power motors.
3, CRZ and CLZ transmission: This transmission means that the motor is installed on the left or right side of the pump, from the direction of the pump inlet, if the motor is on the left side of the pump, it is CL transmission, if the motor is on the right side of the pump, it is CR transmission, if the pump and the motor are provided with a common base, then the letter "Z" indicates. But for large pumps, because of its own weight and volume is larger, in this case, generally no longer provide a common base. This installation mode, especially because it is installed on the ground, runs relatively smoothly. But it also takes up a lot of space.
4. ZVZ transmission: This transmission mode is the same as CV transmission, which puts the motor at a high level. The difference is that this transmission mode has a common base, the motor is directly behind the pump, and the base of the motor is raised to achieve the purpose of the high motor. Because the orientation of the motor and pump in this transmission mode looks like the capital letter "Z", it is called ZVZ transmission. The characteristics of this transmission mode are similar to CV, because the motor is at a high level, so if there is water leakage on the site, it can prevent the motor from entering the water, so as to protect the motor, there is no limitation on the power size of the motor, regardless of the size of the pump and the motor, you can use this transmission mode.
