1. First determine which slurry pump to choose according to the working conditions
The working conditions mentioned here are understood as application industries, such as: mineral processing, coal processing, sand pumping, etc. (This step is very important, and it is also a prerequisite for selection)

2. Flow and head are the two most basic parameters for pump selection:
a: Preliminarily determine the general situation of the pump through the working conditions, such as which series model or whether to consider the material, etc.
b: After determining the series model of the pump, read the performance curve through the flow and head to determine the specific model and size of the pump.
c: Read the curve, calculate the power: The parameters that must be known in the calculation of the shaft power of the pump include flow rate, head, efficiency, and slurry specific gravity; efficiency (η) is determined by the flow rate and head, which can be read out by reading the performance curve; What cannot be provided is only through experience points. Generally (between 1-2), an estimated value will be given to calculate the power during technical calculation.
d: Calculated shaft power P=m*g*h/η Its derivation formula: P=ρ*Q*H/102η (pay attention to the use of safety factor in actual calculation)

Reason IV: Asymmetry or non-parallel of the motor shaft and the pump shaft

Adjust the motor shaft or the pump shaft, replace with a new shaft if the current one is deformed or bent.

Reason V: Uneven feeding of materials

Uneven feeding of materials or big solids entering will cause unstable flow inside the pump chamber, keep an even slurry feeding and protect large solids from entering into the pump.

Reason VI: Cavitation

Too low pressure inside the pump will generate bubbles and when the bubbles break, there will be vibration and noise. Raise the pump suction liquid level to increase static head.

Reason VII: Loose of the foundation or spare parts or incorrect installation

Loosened foundation or internal or external pump parts will cause vibration during pump operation. Check and maintain the slurry pump regularly.

Follow these three key instructions to determine the flow rate:


If the production process specifies minimum, normal, and maximum flow rates, use the maximum flow rate as the benchmark.
If only the normal flow rate is given, allocate a margin:


For high-flow, low-head pumps (ns > 100), allow a 5% margin.
For low-flow, high-head pumps (ns < 50), allow 10%.
For pumps with 50 ≤ ns ≤ 100, use a 5% margin. Increase to 10% for poor-quality pumps or harsh conditions.


Convert weight-based flow rates to volumetric flow rates if necessary.
