Slurry pumps are primarily used in industrial sectors such as metallurgy, power generation, coal, and mining to transport slurries. These pumps handle mixtures containing solid particles, demanding that proper operating guidelines be followed.
To reduce the risk of clogging when processing slurries with high impurity content (e.g., mud), place a filter screen at the inlet. This minimizes the impurity particle entry, extends the pump’s lifespan, and prevents blockages. If a backup pump is available, alternate between pumps to avoid prolonged continuous operation.
Ensure the pump is placed on a stable surface during operation. For submersible slurry pumps, the pump structure has to be immersed in the water while the motor is above water to maintain stability.
For pumps with mechanical seals, always supply shaft seal water and never run them dry to prevent seal damage. Start the seal water before operation and continue supplying it for at least 3 minutes after shutdown.
In mining applications, slurry pumps often process rough ore, leading to significant wear. Lifespan varies based on ore hardness and particle size.
